Customer Reviews. I bought this drive to consolidate my DVD backups and reduce my disc collection by a whopping 80%! I found the drive for a better price on a site with an egg in the name. I put this drive in a Vantec USA NexStar DX External USB 3.0 Enclosure which I highly recommend. (See user photos above.) My computer is a 3 year old MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion and I use Toast 11 with the Blu Ray add-on for my burning software. I use the Verbatim 97457 25 GB 6x Blu-ray Single Layer Recordable Discs. So far I've burned about 6 disc's with zero verified disc failures. I've read about 20 DVD backup discs without error and I can copy all 4.7 GB onto my computer in about 6 minutes. My computer is limited to USB 2. I expect the speed to be faster when I upgrade my computer to USB 3.

So far I'm very happy with this drive. It been flawless with reading and writing. It does get quite loud when it spools up to full speed but no louder than any other optical drive I've used. The actual hardware burning is the fastest part of the burn process for me. I encrypt my disc's which take forever (about an hour) since it's 25 GB at a time! The physical burning currently takes about 8-10 minutes and the verification process takes another 15-20 minutes. This is on an older computer with USB 2. I expect my speeds to improve when I update my computer. Your mileage will vary greatly depending on your system. The combination of enclosure / drive / software has been flawless! It's a true plug and play scenario on the Mac platform. No software drivers needed. All the hardware and software play nice and I've never once had a single issue with drives not being found or discs not being able to be written or read. Everything works exactly as it should.

ASUS BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS 12X Blu-ray Internal Burner Drive with Disc Encryption - Black - Retail Box

My experience with this drive has been very good. It ejects the tray very fast. Plays and burns blu-rays well (I used Quantum). I personally prefer not to burn at maximum speed. However, both programs I used (Ashampoo Burning studio, and Power2go that came with the drive) did not allow me to change the speed. Procedure for the rebate is pretty standard. People who complain about it should keep in mind that rebates has never been an easy source of getting money. It is a "game" and you have to play to get your 20 bucks:-)

Have used most brands of DVD writer drives in the market and only recently, I tried an ASUS drive which I fixed up for a friend and was quite surprised at the overall quality so I bought one for myself here. The drive felt well-built and not as noisy compared to the drives I used previously, even when at top spinning / reading speed. The drive also come with a power management software that can turn the drive off when not in use and I didn't have any problem with it at all when I threw the many different disc formats so far. Would recommend to DIY builders.

LG Electronics WH12LS39K M-Disc 12X Internal SATA Blu-Ray Rewriter - OEM Bulk Burner Drive

I started a new build, and decided why not go Blu-ray so after some searching this seemed like a good price. It's OEM, but comes with a cable, and a disc with free software to play Blu-rays. I was surprised after doing a test that this is also able to play 3D Blu-rays.

Great drive Install is easy, Have burned only one blu ray disk worked great, Had some scratched up disks that my 2 laptops and my external DVD drive Would read hit or miss this thing reads them every time Great Drive!!!!!
